How Do I Figure Out What to Major In?

Many students struggle with choosing a major—you are not alone! But there are lots of ways to explore majors and pick one that's right for you:

  • Take our class called Major and Career Exploration (ID 1201). In this 2-credit class, we help you explore majors and career options. You'll do an in-depth assessment of your interests, skills, and values, then plug those into a major.

  • Sign up to take a personality and interest assessment . You'll take the tests online, then meet with a CCLC career counselor to go over your results. These self-assessments will help you with the major and career decision-making process.

  • Visit the Resource Room in our 135 Johnston Hall office. We've got a binder full of information about every individual major in CLA (more than 60!). You can browse on your own or talk to a Peer Advisor.

  • Check out our What Can I Do With a Major in.... ? section. You'll find information about every major in the College of Liberal Arts (more than 60), plus careers you could pursue with that major.
