Volunteer For CLA Programs

The Career and Community Learning Center welcomes CLA alumni, friends of the University, and family members of students to volunteer in the following ways:

Informational Interviews
Be on a list of alumni willing to do an informational interview with a student exploring career options. During a 30-45 minute meeting, a student would ask you questions about your career to determine if it's a good fit for them. Contact can occur via email or telephone. Approximate number of contacts per year: 3-4

Job Shadows
Be on a list of alumni willing to have a student job shadow you for a day. During a job shadow, the student would see your line of work first hand, ask questions, and meet other individuals within your organization. Approximate number of contacts per year: 1-2

Panelists
Sit on a panel with other professionals with your major in a "What Can I do with a Major in ___?" workshop. During this two-hour time commitment, you share information about your current line of work, your career path, and answer questions. Approximate number of contacts per year 1-2.

Classroom Presenters
Be a speaker in one of our career development courses. This may include doing a talk about your line of work, conducting in-class mock interviews, or giving tips on how to make the best of your experiences as a student. Approximate number of contacts per year: 1-2.

Become a Mentor
The CLA Mentor Program allows students to learn about specific careers from working professionals. Mentors develop a one-to-one relationship with the student to provide career information and support. This is a school-year commitment (October-April).
