Writer, Self Employed

Margaret Perron

Major(s): English

Minor(s):

Additional Degrees:

Current Job Title: Writer

Organization: Self-Employed

Brief description of your job:

I write every day and do a small amount of promotion of my work such as giving talks.

Other job titles you have held:

I was a program associate for a U of M independent study program and opened a business (a coffee and retail shop)

How have you found these positions?

I love being a writer and have found having the ability to write well to be useful in every endeavor I've ever pursued.

What skills from your degree to you use in your current work?

Every book I ever read and every creative writing class I ever attended has affected and influenced my work. To have had teachers like Trish Hampl and Carol Bly was more than inspiring, it was almost infecting, as in being infected by a fever to not only write but to write with beauty and integrity.

What advice do you have for current students?

Pursue what you love to do with passion. Take the classes you want to take. One person, one book, one teacher, one class, can change your life.
