Psychology Academic Advisor, University of Minnesota

Becky Mooney
Major(s):
Psychology
Current job title: Psychology Academic Advisor

Brief description of your job:
I get to talk to psychology students every day about how to get the most from their psychology degree. I talk to them about study abroad opportunities, research opportunities, internship opportunities. I talk to them about how to be best prepared for a career. I talk to them about their career hopes and help them find pathways for getting there. I help set up events for students to help serve their needs.

Other job titles you have held:
Administrative Assistant & Accounting Specialist

What advice do you have for current students?
The best way to make your CLA degree work for you is to go beyond the coursework you need. You should get involved in the research being done at the university, or find an internship. Volunteer whenever you can to help boost your resume and your experience. Each experience you add will help guide you to that thing you love to do. Talk with the faculty and find out what connections you can make and what you can learn from them outside of class. Meet with your advisors. They have so much more to tell you than what classes to take!!
