Program Director, Minnesota Campus Compact

Piyali Nath Dalal
Major(s):
English/ International Relations
Minor(s): Philosophy
Current Job Title: Program Director
Organization Name: Minnesota Campus Compact

Brief description of your job:
Coordinate a Student Fellows program (15-20 college students who are working to create change on their campuses and communities). Manage the databases and also oversee the resource library.Other job titles you have held: Education and Membership Specialist

How have you found these positions?
I found my first position through an emailed job description from a friend. My second position was created for me, and I knew my co-workers through experiences during college. I did a part time Americorps program through Minnesota Campus Compact. I also was part of their first learning community on anti-racism and education.

What skills from your degree do you use in your current work?
My writing skills, my speaking skills, my critical reading skills, and also my knowledge about relationships between nations apply to understanding relationships among people and among small organizations.

What advice do you have for current students?
I do recommend a little bit of database knowledge (because most jobs require it these days). It doesn't have to be a lot of knowledge because you can pick it up as you are on the job.

I also really recommend contacting everyone you know and tell them that you are looking for a job. They will keep an eye out for you, and this can be tremendously helpful. Faculty may not be as connected with the job scene, but definitely ask staff, community members you might now, and students who have graduated.
