Paralegal, Twin Cities Immigration Law Firm

Major(s): Spanish
Current Job Title: Paralegal
Organization: Twin Cities Immigration Law Firm

What advice do you have for current students?

  1. Don't accept the first job you're offered. Even if you're anxious to get a job, you may be selling yourself short if you don't explore all of your options.
  2. If there is a specific job you're after (at a specific company), keep in touch with them. Find any reason you can to stop by, call them or drop an email. If you give up, they will probably have forgotten your name by the time a position opens up.
  3. It's a lot better to start at the bottom knowing you can move up, than starting in the middle/top with no opportunity for growth or advancement.
  4. Consider volunteering at an organization before shooting for full-time work there. If you show them what you can do without getting paid, they can only imagine what you can do when you're actually held responsible for your work. Your interest will really impress them too and since you haven't made a real commitment, there is no pressure.
