Minor(s): Linguistics

Additional Degrees: B.F.A., M.A., Ph.D.

Current Job Title: Lecturer

Organization: University of Minnesota

Brief description of your job:

Teach writing courses with emphasis on critical thinking about globalization and about civic engagement. Executive Editor/Owner: Essential Copy and Communications (marketing communications).

Other job titles you have held:

Marketing Communications Director

How have you found these positions?

I replied to an ad for a writer posted for graduate students at the U many years back, which turned into a career‑track position. Responded to University listings for writing instructors.

What skills from your degree do you use in your current work?

Interpretive and evaluative skills acquired while pursuing English degrees are the foundation of the value I bring to my communications work. Expertise in grammar and rhetoric serve my students and my marketing clients alike.

What advice do you have for current students?

Get feedback from counselors about your skills and interests. In addition to academics, pursue knowledge about business, industry, scholarship, and teaching with professors and counselors. A major and a career are not the same, and getting others' perspectives will be valuable.
