Choreographer &Dance Instructor, New and Slightly Used Dance

Matt Jenson

Major(s): Dance

Current Job Title: Choreographer, Dance Instructor

Organization: New and Slightly Used Dance

Brief description of your job:

As a freelance choreographer, I have created dances for the U of MN Dance Program, MN Dance Theatre, Mankato State University, the Arts High School and the Weisman Art Museum. I choreograph some of the main stage productions at the Children's Theatre, the largest children's theatre company in the nation. I have also worked with Outward Spiral Theatre Company and the U of MN Opera. In 2002, I gathered a group of choreographers (most of us are Dance Program grads) to start the Best Feet Forward Festival, a collectively run modern dance festival that is now in going into it's fourth year. I also teach dance at the Children's Theatre (8 ‑ 12 year olds) and the U of MN Dance Program (Modern Dance 1 and 2).

Other job titles you have held:

Administrative Aide for the Dance Program; Freelance Graphic Designer

What advice do you have for current students?

If you love it, do it. The universe will find a way to support you.
