Campus Organizer, MPIRG

Megan Wolff

Major(s): Women's Studies

Minor(s): Cultural Studies and Comparative Literature

Current Job Title: Campus Organizer

Organization: MPIRG

Brief description of your job:

I organize the MPIRG campus chapter at the U of M and teach students leadership skills and how they can create social change.

Other job title you have held:

With MPIRG I was the Take Back the Night Organizing Intern, Community Organizer, and the Chair of the State Board of Directors.

How have you found these positions?

I got involved with MPIRG as a student and was hired upon graduation.

What skills from your degree do you use in your current job?

In MPIRG we work on several women's rights issues and I have used a lot of the critical thinking skills that I learned from my Women's Studies degree. I have also worked to address many issues of power when working to create social change. At MPIRG, we work to address all of the isms: racism, classism, sexism etc. and I use a lot of what I learned in college to address these issues.

What advice do you have for current students?

Be involved on campus! Do internships and get real world experience. I was hired at MPIRG because I did a lot of internships with them and was very involved with the organization as a student. I am actually working in a job that is related to my degree. You can do this if you get experience while you are in college!
