Name: Jonathan Ritter

Major: American Indian Studies

Current Job Title: Assistant Professor of Ethnomusicology

Brief description of your job: I am a professor of ethnomusicology, a field of study that looks at the connections between music and culture all over the world. After my years at the University of Minnesota, I went on to graduate school in ethnomusicology at UCLA, and began a new faculty position at the University of California - Riverside this year. I will be introducing UCR's first course on Native American music this spring, drawing directly on what I learned as an undergraduate at UMN.

What advice do you have for current students? Do what you love, and think of what the world needs.
