Name: Theodore Dorenkamp

Major: International Relations/Japanese

Law School: University of Minnesota

Description of your job: Litigation - Product Liability Defense, Intellectual Property, General Business

Do you have any advice for students who are considering going to the same law school you did? Remember the big picture

Is there anything in particular that you did during your undergrad that benefited you more than anything else in getting through law school and/or transitioning into the legal profession? Language studies, working in a law firm, and taking a 3 year break between undergraduate and law school

If you had a chance to go through law school all over again, is there anything you would do differently? No

Is being a lawyer what you expected it would be? Why or why not? I had few "expectations"

What is it like transitioning from being a law student to being a lawyer? Stressful, practice is unlike study; enter real life and real decisions!

Is there anything students should know about the legal profession before they decide to commit their life to it? It's a total commitment

What does a typical day look like for you as a lawyer? Office by 8:30; telephone conferences with clients, experts, opposing counsel, motion drafting, discovery reviews and editing, researching law and esoteric procedural rules, preparing for hearings, worrying about billable time, and myriad other tasks; out of the office by 6:30, sometimes later, almost never earlier.

Any Final Advice? Be certain and be ethical.
