Name: Jonathan Murphy Suk

Major: Political Science (minor: African American Studies)

Law School: NYU School of Law

How many schools did you apply to? What criteria did you use in picking these schools?
I applied to seven schools and made my selections primarily based on reputation (rankings, clinical programs, etc.) and location.

How did you prepare for the LSAT? Do you have any advice?
I attended a Kaplan class in the summer before taking the exam in the fall.  The course was only helpful because it forced me to study.  Otherwise, the time I spent in the weeks before the exam, taking practice exams on my own (no full exams, just individual sections), was probably the most useful method of preparation.

What strategies did you use in networking with the professors and employers who wrote letters of recommendation for you? I talked with people (supervisors at internships and professors) and gave them an opportunity to get to know me as a person.

How did you go about writing your personal statement? How much did you change your personal statement to fit each school? I wrote one personal statement and don't think it's helpful for me to tell anyone else what I wrote.  I can only advise that a person should avoid being clich?that's boring!).

If you had a chance to go through the process again, is there anything you would have done differently? I would have applied for public interest scholarships (and not assumed that I would be out-matched by my competitors in the application process).

Is law school like you expected it would be? Why or why not? For the most part, it is.  However, I have to admit that it's not as awful as most people informed me that it would be.  It's a lot of work, but is, without question, an amazing privilege that makes it worthwhile.

Any final Advice? Ignore people who appear crazy--their negative energy is worth avoiding.
