Law School: Stetson University College of Law

How many schools did you apply to? What criteria did you use in picking these schools? Only Stetson because it's the only law school within driving distance of my home.

How did you prepare for the LSAT? Do you have any advice? Took a prep class. Testmasters. Excellent course. I improved my score by 10 points. Highly recommend it.

What strategies did you use in networking with the professors and employers who wrote letters of recommendation for you? I graduated from the U of MN in 1977. Therefore with my many years of work experience I didn't have a problem with letters of recommendation.

How did you go about writing your personal statement? How much did you change your personal statement to fit each school? That was difficult. It was hard to think of all the good things I'd done and accomplished. We tend to dwell on our failures, don't we?

Anyway, after many attempts and much input from friends, I was able to write a decent letter.

If you had a chance to go through the process again, is there anything you would have done differently? No.

Is law school like you expected it would be? Why or why not? Yes and No. I love taking the classes but the tests are difficult. All essays and the majority of classes only have one final exam which counts for 100% of your grade. Talk about stress! You don't have any idea how you're doing throughout the semester.

I've just finished all my required classes and am going to start taking electives. I've been told they are a lot easier - supposedly if you make it through the first year, the second and third years put together are still easier than that first year.

Any final advice? I wish I had been able to go earlier in my life. The brain cells are not working as well as they used to.

I think I would have taken more writing and speech courses in undergrad school. Also, good study habits are a MUST!
